OYO STATE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES GUIDELINES FOR SCHOOL RESUMPTION

The Oyo state government has announced some important guidelines which schools are expected to follow to ensure a smooth resumption in the state.    The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology,  Olasunkanmi Olaleye who made the announcement on Wednesday July 1, said school heads, principals and teachers have undergone training on how to monitor and report any suspected case of Coronavirus.    An Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) has been set up in the State capital and at the zonal levels. Incident Managers have also been appointed for each school in the state, and they are expected to report any emergency directly to the EOCs through special communication lines.   Each class will also have Warder whose obligation is to relate with the Incident Managers on his or her observations. Schools in the state must also observe compulsory hand-washing points at its entrances and at the entrance of each classroom. Alcohol-based sanitizers must also be provided for students and

NASS SUSPENDS RECUIRTMENT OF 774,000 NIGERIANS INTO PUBLIC WORK

The National Assembly has suspended the recruitment of 774,000  Nigerians for the Special Public Works programme under the National Directorate of Employment to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic.   The announcement was made on Wednesday July 1 after some lawmakers engaged in a shouting match with Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo.    Spokesperson for the Senate, Ajibola Basiru who admitted that the recruitment exercise was suspended after a disagreement with Keyamo, said the the Minister in charge of the Ministry has been ordered before the federal legislature to explain the recruitment modalities.   Basiru said;    “In view of the foregoing, the implementation of the programme shall be on hold pending proper briefing of the National Assembly by the Minister of Labour and Productivity.”   The programme, expected to take off in October this year, was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari. GROOM DIES AFTER INFECTING OVER 100 WEDDING GUESTS IN INDIA

A wedding in India turned out to be a Coronavirus hotspot, killing the groom who had a high fever, and infecting more than 100 guests as his family didn't heed his request to post-pone the wedding ceremony. According to the Hindustan Times, the 30-year-old software engineer developed diarrhea and a high fever before his June 15 wedding, but his family forced him to swallow a painkiller and go through with the ceremony, attended by more than 360 people in Paliganj.        48 hours later, his condition worsened and he died on the way to a hospital, according to the news outlet. His body was quickly cremated without being tested for the coronavirus.   As a result of the man's death, all of his close relatives were tested for the virus on June 19 and 15 were confirmed to be positive.   In a desperate attempt to prevent the spread of the disease, a camp was set up where samples were taken from the other attendees. CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES IN NIGERIA SKYROCKETS TO 18,480 AFTER 745 PEOPLE TESTS POSITIVE IN 24 HOURS

The confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria has now hit 18,480 after 745 people tested positive on Thursday, June 18, 2020.   According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, 280 of the new cases were recorded in Lagos, 103 in Oyo, 72 in Ebonyi, 60 in FCT, 46 in Imo, 34 in Edo, 33 in Delta, 25 in Rivers, 23 in Kaduna, 16 in Ondo, 12 in Katsina, 10 in Kano, 8 in Bauchi, 7 in Borno, 5 in Kwara, 4 in Gombe, 2 in Sokoto, 2 in Enugu, 1 in Yobe, 1 in Osun, and 1 in Nasarawa State.  In total, Nigeria has now recorded 18,480 cases of COVID-19. 6,307 patients have been discharged from various Isolation centers across the country, while 475 deaths have been recorded.

A STUDENT OF THE POLYTECHNIC SAKI, RAPED AND KILLED IN IBADAN

According to reports, Grace, a 21-year-old National Diploma student of Oke Ogun Polytechnic, was allegedly raped and then murdered inside the church located in the Ojoo area of Ibadan in Akinyele Local Government Area. She was discovered with machete cuts on her body. In a statement released, the spokesperson of the state police command, Gbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the incident but said details of the incident are still sketchy. ‘One Grace Oshiagwu, female, aged 21 years, was macheted on her head in a church mission building at Idi-Ori Area, Shasha off expressway by unknown assailant(s) today 13/06/2020 about 3:00 pm. ‘Investigation has commenced into the matter and the police tactical teams are on the trail of the assailant(s).
